Popsicle stick houses

A challenge throughout the day, when we have free time, is to build Popsicle stick houses using the hot glue gun and popsicle sticks. Some children have researched some cool looking houses using our Chrome books.

We have already learnt that it is easier to glue the sticks to batons at the back rather than try to glue the long sides of each stick to each other. Plus it will mean it is stronger.

Linking

For handwriting we have been doing linking - cursive writing. This is new for many people in our class.
We have some very good linkers in Room Ten. We also have to remember to slope our writing.

Our google slides

We are doing Google slides so we get to know how to use the Chrome books better.  On the slide it has our favourite Youtube video and a section where we write 'At school I like' .... and so on. Down below we have some pictures of people doing their slides. Soon we will upload them so that you can learn more about us.

Long ball with Mr T

Two times a week we go and play Long ball with Room 7 and Mr Towersey. We are getting better each week and we are Playing really well together as a class. We are developing the skills to win together as a team. We won't share our special winning strategies with you just incase the opposition is reading our blog.

Our mini Garden

This week we have planted plants in plastic fizzy bottles outside on our deck - plants such as mustard seeds, flowers and herbs so we can have a little garden outside our classroom. Here are some people planting their plants in their fizzy bottles.

Swimming

For the past 3 weeks we have been practising swimming for our swimming sports. If we can swim like a dart we will get a chance to compete at North Clusters and Western Bay of Plenty Swimming Sports.
Here are some of our class doing freestyle and backstroke. We are trying to breathe on both sides when we swim freestyle.
One group is also learning the correct leg movement for breaststroke.

Lessons from Geese

Mr Towersey talked to the school at assembly about the lessons we can learn from geese. Watch the video. How can we apply this to our classroom? Miss Chambers is sure we can learn lessons from Cocoa too - watch this space to see what we come up with.

Getting to Know Each Other

At the beginning of the year it is always important to get to know one another - find things in common. We have made some pieces of art which display some of the things which are on our mind. We have also been learning how to apply paint evenly - which has been a challenge.

Chromebooks in Our Classroom

Room 10 are very fortunate as we have 12 Chromebooks in our class to help with our learning. Here we are looking at the new reading site - Ziptales. Look it up at home www.ziptales.com username - tepunaschool password - kaiapoi75
