Great Role Model

Today Paige was a great role model to her classmates as she follows instructions quickly and is always prepared for learning.
Here she is wearing our Great Role Model wristband for the day.

Synonym Slapdown

In our Literacy swap we played a game of Synonym Slapdown. A variety of words were placed face up on the floor. I read out sentences and the children had to choose the synonym of the word at the end of the sentence. If they slapped their hand down on it first they won the word. The person with the most words won the game.
It became much more competitive as less words were left on the floor.

Our Lectern

Everyone likes to work in different ways. We have a lectern in our room for those who like to stand up when they work.

Playground Fun

Below me I heard crunching bark under my feet - River

Beside me I saw Greta having a really fun time on the wobbly  hoverboard. - Simone

Above me I can see feet stomping across the bridge.  - Jamie

Behind me people were wobbling on the hoverboard. Jonas

Cocoa has been visiting

Cocoa the school cat has been visiting our room before school for the last 2 days.
This is very brave of her to be in the room in the morning with all the children around. She often comes to sit with me in the afternoons when all is still and quiet, and she can hog most of the couch.
The children were very good with her - playing with her with the cat toys but also giving her some space if she was feeling hemmed in.
It will be awesome if she can feel comfortable visiting the class while the children are working.

Hit It

We have some great coaches come in once a week for a month to teach P.E skills to our class. These sessions are based on hitting. Last week it was with hockey sticks - this week with tennis rackets.
here we are practicing our ball skills.

Bee Bots

On our final day with the Bee Bots. We had to programme the Bots to reach a specific destination. We then tried to predict what weight they could tow.

VIP of the week

Each week a child will be our VIP. I have tried to link their VIP week with their birthdays if possible.
They can bring items to school to share with their classmates:
favourite toys
medals or trophies
a teddy bear from when they were little
favourite book
art they have created
sports equipment
knic knacs
No electronics or expensive items though please.
On a Friday they will present their items or just talk a bit about themselves. the class is then given the opportunity to ask questions.
This is a great way to get to know a bit more about each other, a great opportunity for your child to practice speaking to a large group, and a great way to practise asking open questions.

This week was Silow.

Wiggle Art

We have been slowly working on our wiggle art - looking at shading in particular.
Look how brilliantly Keenan made the columns look like they were bulging off the page.

We all had a go programming the robots.

We drew a plan on the carpet with chalk and had to programme the bee bots to follow our plan. Lots of trial and error.

Music Lessons

Today was awesome as we had our first music lesson with Mr E.
The children had the opportunity to play 3 different instruments - the marimba, keyboard and percussion. It was awesome.

We are so very fortunate to have this opportunity.

We have some robots in the classroom from the 'House of Science'. They are here for a week. Here is a sneak peek at them. More photos to follow.

Helping circle

After we do our writing we hop in our Helping Circle. In this circle we read our writing to each other - often we find we have left words out or things just don't quite make sense, so it is a great time to edit our work. We also focus in on our teaching point - today was sentence beginnings.

Using Our Chrome books for the first time

Today we used the chromebooks. We are very very fortunate as we have enough for one each.

We logged in to Mathletics - a great website for practicing strategies we learn in the classroom and basic facts.
It has a section where you can compete with children from all over the world in a quick fire basic facts test. The kids love it.

We also logged in to ziptales which is a great reading resource.

Swap with Rm 10 , 7 and 6

A great way to get to know each other - with some icebreakers.
We played 'Get To Know You' Bingo. You had to ask people facts that were on the sheet - e.g I have a dog, I come to school on the bus.
If they agreed with the sentence they signed your form. If you had 5 signatures in a row you called BINGO.

2016 - a new year with wonderful new children

What a great start to the new school year.
Here we are doing a class treasure hunt.
We had a sheet with photos of items around the classroom - scissors, dictionaries, wet day games, headphones etc.
We had to find these items in our new classroom.
A great way to find our way around a new room.
