North Cluster Cross Country

On Tuesday, 12 children from our class went to the North Cluster Cross Country competition at Whakamarama School. It was a real cross country course - up and down hills, through mud and gorse - fun.
Thank you to Lisa Sawyer for the photos and videos.

Wearable Arts

We have started to create our amazing headpieces. It has been a challenge finalising our plans and then trying to work out how to make them come alive in 3D form - but we are on the journey and having messy fun. Lots of problem solving happening.

Music With Mr E

Mr E is back and we had so much fun with him today.
We had our first lesson on the ukeleles.
We learned to hold them by the neck and match the belly button on the ukelele up with our own belly buttons.
Here we are playing along to a song the choir sing - we played 3 notes.

What we will aim for.

A cool video showing the strings vibrating.

We experimented with tapping a glass jar as it was being filled with water.
We learned that small vibrations are made when you hit the glass - this creates sound waves which travel through the water. More water means slower vibrations and a deeper tone.

Children as Teachers

This is what I love to see - children teaching children. I love it when kids feel comfortable sharing their knowledge and others feel comfortable learning from their classmates. Each child has something they can teach other people.
Excuse the photo - it was taken from a distance.

Bubble Photos

Here are some more amazing shots.

Mid Pop

Such professionals

We were out taking more photos today. I love the way they reviewed their photos out in the field and shared interesting ideas with each other.

Bubble Art

While half the class is taking the photos the other half have been creating some bubble art which we will use as a border for our photo display.
We just used bubble mixture that had been coloured with dye.

We have been looking at how to create well composed photos using the Points Of Power.
We have also been investigating the importance of having a background that isn't too busy and some that show contrast. Here are just a few of the photos we have taken today. Not bad for 8 year olds.
