Ninja Stars

We had a challenge today to make ninja stars. This involved a lot of small motor skills, teamwork, persevereance and a bid helping of patience.

Zero Waste

Today was fun - having a really close look at some tiger worms which help compost waste.
They were huge.

Wind Vanes

What fun we had making these wind vanes. They look simple enough but involved quite a bit of thought - especially tricky was trying to balance the straw on the pencil so it stayed straight. Quite a bit of problem solving involved. We then had to ensure their was enough surface area on the vanes to push them around.

Ag Day

What a fantastic day. I love the concentration and creativity.

Light It Up

The House of Science have some amazing kits for us to use. this week we are exploring electricity and light.
Today we made simple circuits. The playdough was a conductor.

Weather Home Learning Projects

Look at these wonderful home learning projects. Charlie created an incredible tornado. I love the way he included all the items that were sucked up into the tornado - animals included.

Cloud models

Here are our versions of the different types of clouds. Note the thicker heavier clouds are lower in the sky as they are heavy and hold a lot of rain.

Disaster Art

We learnt about Andy Warhol and Pop Art. We decided to choose a disaster and create a computer generated piece of art based on one of Warhol's pieces.

Reece's Jiu jitsu Medal

Reece recently won his first Jiu Jitsu fight in a tournament in Ohope.

Magician's visit

Today we had a magician visiting the school to do a promo for his show. He did some cool tricks - even made a live bird appear out of a picture frame.
I managed to catch some of the kids reactions.

Weather Reports

We have been learning how to read weather maps - what a High pressure area is, a cold and warm front, what it means when isobars are close together.
We used google drawings to create our own weather maps using the correct fronts and colours. Next we will write a weather report to match our picture.

For the next few weeks we are learning how to play badminton. The first part of session one was spent learning how to hold the racket correctly and get used to balancing the shuttlecock.

Light and Water

We have been exploring light. We had fun discovering why we could see the laser light when we shone a fine mist of water around the beam.

Water Experiments

We learnt about surface tension today and had great fun trying to blow a drop of water down some greaseproof paper. The challenge was to keep it as a whole drop until it finished the race. The drop stys in formation because the surface tension of the water is intact.

Japanese Visitors

We were fortunate to have the Japanese students visiting us for an afternoon. We decided to teach them some of the playground games we have been learning. This was a great way for us to revise the rules and show that we are good sports people.

The water cycle goes round and round. The rain forms in the clouds. Evaporation, precipitation, condensation, run off too. and its used for me and you. When its gone, when its gone. Daily Weather Report

Each day we will have a weather report by one of the children. As the term progresses so should the detail and technical knowledge of the children.
