On Friday we were entertained by NZ Playhouse with their performance of Snow White. It was a fantastic show with themes around sensible use of social media. It was also great to take note of the costumes and how they were made. Now that we are creators of Wearable Art we can appreciate these designs with new eyes.

Kandinsky Trees
Aren't these fabulous? Mrs Youngman inspired this great art.
One of the tricky things to do was to cut the circles freehand - no drawing the outlines first.
Also drawing a treetrunk which gets smaller the further it spreads away from the trunk was a challenge.

Wiggle Art
We have been slowly working on our wiggle art - looking at shading in particular.
Look how brilliantly Keenan made the columns look like they were bulging off the page.

Paper Mache animals
We are in the process of making paper mache animals based on animals we saw at the zoo and at Kelly Tarltons.
Each animal needs to have something added to the balloon base - e.g a wing, legs, beak, fin etc. It has been a learning curve to create the correct shape and then attach it correctly to the balloon.
We will update the page as the animals take shape.
I am very impressed with the children's ability to clean up so quickly after our art sessions - it can be a very messy task!!!

Art Appreciation
Some reviews of the Deep Freeze art piece at the Art Roadshow.
I liked the Deep Freeze art because the picture up close looked like the artist had thrown the paint on. But when you looked at it from far away it looked real. The streams wove their way through the mountains. The picture has lots of detail from the blobs of paint, also he has used a lot of colours. It really catches in your eye. Neil Frazer has done an amazing job. Lilly

I like this painting because it looks like Neil Frazer just splashed all the paint onto the canvas. I like the blue and whites he used. The art man said that he put the mountains on a slope because it naturally draws your eyes down through the painting. Over the side I like the look of the drips coming off from a pond. I also like this painting because it is something I can relate to because I go to the snow quite a lot. This was definitely my favourite thing in the art van.

Art Van visit
We visited the Art Van today which was full of the work of contemporary New Zealand Artists. We investigated the medium they used and some of the stories behind their art works. We also looked at the way the artist helped guide your eyes through a painting. Colour choices were also important in telling the narrative.

Bike Art
We have been busy creating art based on parts of a bike
Step 1 - take a photo of only one part of a bike
Step 2 - print photo of the bike onto the back of a map
Step 3 - carefully cut out the bike and glue onto a plain white sheet of paper
Step 4 - paint
Here are some photos of the process we have been going through

What we are hoping they will look like in the end. I think we are doing well.

ANZAC Art
The background to the art was a portion of a journal story about WW1. we placed wavy brown and black lines over the articles. The children thought these represented the hills of Gallipoli, trenches, sadness, death, and dirt.
The poppies were made from heart shapes and represent the love for the soldiers and our country. the red is a stronger colour than the black.

Our name art
We went to Mrs Phipps's class and started our Name Art. It was very tricky and complicated all at the same time. We wrote our names in block letters and turned the page and wrote it backwards, then we chose 3 colours, one for the background and two colours for your name.

Popsicle stick houses
A challenge throughout the day, when we have free time, is to build Popsicle stick houses using the hot glue gun and popsicle sticks. Some children have researched some cool looking houses using our Chrome books.
We have already learnt that it is easier to glue the sticks to batons at the back rather than try to glue the long sides of each stick to each other. Plus it will mean it is stronger.
