We had some pictures of different plants and animals that live at the estuary. We had to put place them together as a food web and include arrows to show who eats what.
When we finished we looked at a food web on our blog to see if we were on the right track.

Coca Cola Experiment
We have been doing more experiments about food and what ingredients are in our food.
We looked at the ingredients in a coke bottle. They were water, sugar, colouring, and acid.
To find out how much sugar was in a coke bottle we decided to evaporate the water by boiling it in a frypan on the stove.
When the water has evaporated we were left with a sticky black mixture. We poured this onto some baking paper. This is what we were left with. This is just sugar and food colouring.
If we crushed this up we think this would be about 5 teaspoons of sugar.
So imagine drinking a bottle of fresh water and then being offered 5 teaspoons of sugar to eat.
We also boiled the water off some orange juice.
There is a lot of sugar in orange juice too - a lot of this is pulp though.

Robots
We all had a go programming the robots.
We drew a plan on the carpet with chalk and had to programme the bee bots to follow our plan. Lots of trial and error.

Science Treasure Hunt
Today we did a Science Treasure Hunt.
The teacher hid Science questions about seed dispersal, parts of a flower and pollination around the room. When we found the questions we had to record the answers on an answer sheet. The tricky thing was not to make it obvious where the questions were hidden because we didn't want the other groups to beat us. We tried to look very casual when we found them.
Some of them were hidden under tables, chairs, behind the heaters, between posters hanging up in the room, on plant pots - everywhere.

Growing Beans
HI,
Here is a video of us planting beans - unfortunately the program I use seems to have cut a lot of the beans out of the shots - but you hopefully get the basic idea.

Exhaust Experiment
We have again been lucky enough to use a kit from The House of Science. This set of experiments dealt with air pollution. The children loved the hands on nature of the experiments.

Robot Fun
Last term we were fortunate to be able to use the robot set which was provided free from the House of Science for a week to schools. We followed basic programs to make each robot move - and had lots of fun doing it.

Wonderful Water Wheels
We saw some Wonderful Water Wheels work today. This was a Home Learning project that both children and adults enjoyed.
A water wheel is
a hydropower system; a machine for extracting power from the
flow of water. Water wheels and hydropower was widely used in the Middle Ages, powering most
industry in Europe, along with the windmill. The most common use of the water wheel was to mill
flour in gristmills, but other uses included foundry work and machining,
and pounding linen for use in paper.

Solar Ovens
The Solar Ovens work using reflection and absorption.
The tin foil reflects the light on to the black piece of paper inside the pizza box.
The black paper absorbs all the colours in the light spectrum - ROY G BIV and it turns into heat energy.
The gladwrap traps the heat inside the box.
The ovens reached 40 degrees.
