Officer Den visit

Officer Den was at school today and thought he would pop into our class to say hello. He loves visiting our school - there have been many generations of his family go to Te Puna School - his grandparent, mum, dad, himself and his daughters. Miss Chambers taught one of his daughters too. He told us some interesting stories of life on the job and reminded us to use our WITS

W - walk away
I - ignore
T - tell someone
S - say something

Te Reo Maori

It is Maori language week and we have been learning how to say how we are feeling. We aim to continue developing our language skills. We also discussed how important it is to pronounce each other's names correctly - noone likes to come to school and have people say their name incorrectly.

Kick It

We have been having Kick It lessons during the last month - both Soccer and Rugby League skills.
We have been very brave because our lessons are on a Monday morning at 9am when the frost is till on the grass but we are tough.

Life Ed

We visited the Life Ed van last week for a lesson on our identity, personality and reputation.
Identity - things that make us who we are
Personality - what we do, think, feel and act
Reputation - that we can harm or enhance it.

We also looked at NETIQUETTE
1. What goes on the net stays on the net - (if you post something it is there to stay - photos may be shared etc)
2. Online words are real words - (e.g. if you wouldn't say it to the person to their face then don't say it online.)
3. Know that people take cyber bullying seriously (it is a crime)
4. Develop a code of netiquette at home - (e.g. no cameras in the bedroom, all phones/devices handed in before you go to bed, only Skype in the family room, Don't accept friends unless you know them really well etc)
5. Be a responsible user of technology

Can't wait to have our next lesson on Wednesday

Reading at the Playcentre

We have been fortunate to have been asked to help read to the younger children at the playcentre. Today our first pair visited and thoroughly enjoyed reading to the children. This is a great opportunity for the children to practice their reading skills - putting in lots of expression to keep the listeners interested.
They even received a special painting to bring back to class. It is taking pride of place on the whiteboard.
